We start at the Schmausemühle mill. First, we hike along the stream on the Baybachklamm dream loop and are impressed by the towering cliffs. Narrow paths and rope-secured climbing passages soon demand our full attention and a head for heights.
The Baybachklamm adventure takes us through beautiful, untouched nature, characterized by water and rocks. An impressive cave in the slate rock bears witness to the former mining industry and soon ancient, mossy walls herald the famous Waldeck Castle, which rises approx. 500 m above the path on the edge of the slope and is well worth a detour.
The trail remains in the valley, always closely following the meandering water and delighting with silence and hiking enjoyment at its finest. Then the slopes of the valley diverge somewhat and, passing the Gastemühle mill (not managed), we reach the Murscher Eselsche dream loop.
Now it gets strenuous, as we have to climb the steep rocky ridge of the "Eselsche". But at the top, we are rewarded with fantastic views of the Baybach valley. After an entertaining passage through the forest, we are greeted by open fields and the view sweeps towards the Moselle and Eifel before we reach the stage destination of Morshausen.

Waldeck Castle
Waldeck Castle served as the ancestral castle of the Waldeck family in the Middle Ages. The Ganerbenburg was destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession
and largely replaced in the 18th century by a newly built summer castle
. Waldeck Castle became famous in the 20th century as a meeting place for the Bündische
Jugend and later the Nerother Wandervögel, who now own the castle. In the 1960s, international festivals were held at Waldeck Castle, at which Hans-Dieter Hüsch, Franz-Josef Degenhardt and
Hannes Wader, for example, performed. Events and concerts still take place regularly on the castle grounds today.
Morshausen
Morshausen impresses with its lovingly renovated half-timbered houses: "Finke", "Dinnes" and "Dommerscher" invite you to marvel and the Schwengelbrunnen fountain is something you would probably expect to find in the Hungarian Pußta. The St. Lambertus church and the old bakery, which now houses the Jakob Kneip Museum, are also worth a visit. At the edge of the forest is a natural monument that really
nobody can miss: the Jakob Kneip oak.
The imposing tree is around 700 years old and has a trunk circumference of more than 6 meters. The Madonna in front of the oak was donated by Morshausen's local poet Jakob Kneip in 1951.
Ausrüstung
The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is a near-natural trail, 65% of which is over soft forest soil, grass paths or along streams. However, this special quality can also lead to problems after long periods of rain and make parts of the trail difficult to walk on. Sturdy footwear is therefore highly recommended.
