Frequently asked questions on the subject of healing climates
What is a healing climate?
The German spa and health resort industry can look back on a very long tradition. More than 100 years ago, German health resorts on the coast, in the low mountain ranges and in the high mountains were already popular destinations for international travellers. It was quickly discovered that certain climatic conditions in individual locations had a particularly positive effect on the human organism. With the increasing importance of spa medicine as a separate and recognised field within the medical sciences, this climatic effect was also scientifically recorded and investigated. As a result, the term ‘healing climate’ was coined. Today, precise climatic conditions are defined here that have equally clearly defined health effects. Air pressure, humidity and local air exchange via altitude and valley profiles play just as important a role as seasonal or even daily temperature distributions. In addition, there are high requirements for the purity of the air in terms of pollutants. This air quality must be verified using appropriate measurement methods.

The climate cure
The qualified therapies and treatments are tailored to today's needs. Climate exposure therapy, terrain therapy and heliotherapy complement each other and are combined with other forms of therapy from the balneological or physical fields. German climatic health resorts bear this title as a designation awarded by the state government. The criteria are regularly reviewed. As a result, the health resorts offer a consistently high level of medical quality. Climate therapy is also deliberately used as a preventive measure. This creates a link to the concepts of wellness and medical wellness, especially as Germany's climatic health resorts generally offer visitors a very high quality of stay, regardless of whether they are guests or patients.
