The first part of the stage runs through a hilly and quiet forest landscape, where we cross two idyllic stream valleys. The trail then runs over an agricultural ridge, which offers magnificent views of the Eifel and Hunsrück.
After crossing the L 202, the trail runs parallel to the "Layensteig Strimmiger Berg" dream loop. Passing the villages of Mittelstrimmig and Altstrimmig, the trail descends into the beautiful Bildbach stream valley to Mörsdorfer Bach.
There, the trail leads through a deep, quiet valley, mostly along the Mörsdorf stream. An access path leads 1.5 km uphill to the stage destination of Mörsdorf.
The "Geierlayschleife" runs parallel to the access path. This 6 km circular trail leads from Mörsdorf over the Geierlay suspension rope bridge and through the valley back to Mörsdorf.

Roman excavations near Mittelstrimmig
Remains of a Roman settlement (vicus) were found during excavations near Mittelstrimmig. It was located on an important Celtic-Roman traffic route.
"Schockkapelle" near Mittelstrimmig
It stands on the way to the medieval place of execution of the Counts of Winneberg-Beilstein. In the Middle Ages, those sentenced to death were led past the chapel to the gallows.
The Mittelstrimmig parish church, a three-aisled, five-bay hall church, was built between 1766 and 1769.
Geierlaysuspension rope bridge
The most beautiful suspension rope bridge in Germany is connected to the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig via an access route. 360 meters long and 100 meters high above the Mörsdorfer Bachtal valley between the communities of Sosberg and Mörsdorf, the bridge is an attraction for those with a head for heights and adventurers. Modeled on Nepalese suspension rope bridges, it swings from one bridgehead to the other. It was given its name in an open public competition. Geierslay is the name of an old parcel of land over which the bridge also crosses.
Ausrüstung
The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is a near-natural trail, 65% of which is over soft forest soil, grass paths or along streams. However, this special quality can also lead to problems after long periods of rain and make parts of the trail difficult to walk on. Sturdy footwear is therefore highly recommended.
