From Rhaunen, the trail follows the Idarbach stream with its historic mills for 4 kilometers.
From Reitzenmühle, the trail runs together with the two dream loops "Kappleifelsen-Tour" and "Via Molarum" through a section of forest.
Between Laufersweiler and Niederweiler, we experience an atmospheric alternation of forest and agricultural meadow landscapes. After crossing the L 182, the route first leads through a wooded area and then through idyllic meadows to the medieval village of Dill with its imposing castle ruins and baroque village church.
Behind the Dillerbach stream, we follow a reconstructed section of the old Roman road and shortly afterwards reach the replica of a Roman watchtower. We then follow the course of an old railroad line with great views of the Idarkopf and its surroundings to Sohren. On the north side, an approximately one-kilometre-long access road leads to the town center.

There are numerous historic mills in the Idar Valley. The Weitersbach mill is still in operation and is located directly on the trail.

Wacholderheide mit Skuddengehege bei Laufersweiler
Near Laufersweiler we pass a unique juniper heath with a Skuddengehege.
Laufersweiler
The village of Laufersweiler, which is connected via an access road, is well worth seeing. Among other things, there is an old synagogue
(museum) and a Jewish cemetery.
Dill
In the tranquil village of Dill, there are renovated half-timbered Hunsrück houses, a ruined castle from the 11th century and a
Protestant church from 1701.
Roman tower north-east of Dill
The trail leads to Dill via a Roman road with a reconstructed Roman watchtower.
Ausrüstung
We recommend sturdy footwear (hiking boots) and hiking clothing suitable for the weather on all stages.
Sicherheitshinweise
The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is a near-natural trail, 65% of which is over soft forest soil, grass paths or along streams. However, this special quality can also lead to problems after long periods of rain and make parts of the trail more difficult to walk on. Sturdy footwear is therefore highly recommended.
